I will be making a painting on a medium sized canvas using acrylic paint. I will incorporate photos and letters in a collage style. The painting will portray the female gaze in media as a contrast to the male gaze. This is will take me 3-4 weeks, designing my outline, acquiring materials and completing the work in the spare time that I have. I want to do this project because I feel like it is a topic that is not talked enough about, not just the feminist movement and all that comes with it, but even down to the way we’re portrayed in the media. Defining the difference between the female and male gaze is an important distinction that needs to be made. This relates to cause and effect because the way we perceive people, the way they’re shown to us and the way we describe others plays into who we are as people and the way we view the world. It all connects.
